This week is National Police Week across the country. Dallas, along with other municipalities across Texas and nationwide, are using the occasion to honor their fallen officers.
Here at Cowboy Bail Bonds, we salute those in law enforcement, who choose to put their lives on the line daily to make us safer or to make sure our rights are protected when we are in their custody. It’s a risky job, and the risks aren’t always where we expect them to be.
So far this year, there have been 41 line-of-duty deaths in the U.S. Texas’ tally as of this writing, one: Grayson Country Sheriff’s Deputy, Christian Key, 42. However in Austin, it has been the topic of conversation that the Peace Officers Memorial Foundation is trying to raise more money so they can add space to the memorial for the inevitable names to follow.

Key was killed Saturday, April 20, 2013, when a two-time DWI offender drove a truck striking Key while he was on an unrelated traffic stop. Read more about the accident, here.
One week each year hardly seems like enough to remember those who have given their lives in service to our communities. We should memorialize them daily by taking active roles in our neighborhoods to make them safer for our families. We can do this by being aware and reporting suspicious behavior to the proper authorities when we observe it.
I would be remiss, however, if I didn’t take this opportunity to acknowledge the contributions law enforcement makes to our quality of life. Thank you, thank you to the officers and their families for their eternal bravery and daily sacrifice. We appreciate your efforts and you.
