Teen Made Over 400 Fake 911 Calls Article

A New York teenager was arrested for making 404 prank calls to 911.

16-year-old Dean Whylie had been calling 911 since May 2012 and disguised his voice as a girl reporting bogus incidents about shots being fired, road accidents and police officers in need of assistance.

Police had difficulty tracing the calls as Whylie used two cellphones that had not been activated and can only make emergency calls.

Until one day after making another hoax call, investigators were able to trace cellphone pings to the teen’s home.

Whylie never gave a reason for making the fake calls.

He was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal impersonation, obstruction of governmental administration, filing false reports and criminal nuisance.
