A 10-year-old boy was charged with brandishing a weapon after showing a toy gun on a school bus.
Police in Virginia said the boy was riding home from school when he flashed to fellow students the toy gun, “without indicating it was fake,” and students did not know whether it was real.
One girl on the bus alerted her parents, who informed the school.
Police approached the boy at school and discovered the orange-tipped toy in the boy’s backpack.
The handgun was a replica and could not be fired, police said.
The boy was charged as a juvenile with a misdemeanor.
The student, whom police did not name due to his age, was taken into custody.
